Before submitting your request, make sure the material you are interested in is copyrighted by Hong Kong University Press. It is possible that the Press publication contains images or text that is under copyright by another party, in which case the Press cannot grant permission for its use.
Subsidiary Rights
Hong Kong University Press is eager to make its publications available throughout the world in a variety of languages and formats. A license is required to issue an entire Hong Kong University Press book in any format, including, but not limited to:
- Translation in full
- English or Chinese reprint in full
- Digital or ebook reproduction
- Audio or video reproduction or adaptation
- Bookclub edition
- Pre- or post-publication serialization

Permissions
A non-exclusive permission license is needed if you wish to reproduce an extract from a Hong Kong University Press book (either in its original language or in translation). To request permission, please send an email to our rights manager and include the following information:
- The publisher (with full address)
- Title of the publication
- Territory where the publication will be offered for sale
- Language
- Estimated number of copies
- Estimated list price
- Estimated publication date
Classroom use
Permission to excerpt material for classroom use in the United States can be easily arranged by searching through the Press’s listings with the Copyright Clearance Center (www.copyright.com; info@copyright.com). If they are unable to help, please contact our rights manager directly with the following information:
- Full contact details of the institution making the request
- Course title and semester
- Number of pages to be copied
- Number of copies to be made
No permission required
- Use in unpublished class papers, theses, and dissertations that will not be circulated beyond your campus
- If the use falls under fair use or fair dealing in your jurisdiction
Image Permissions
If your request includes images, check the credit line and the book’s acknowledgments to make sure the image or figure you wish to reproduce has not been credited to another source. For material copyrighted by another third-party, you must obtain permission directly from the owner of the image.
