Visions of China: Stories from Macau is an anthology of stories from the Portuguese, set against the backdrop of that former colony and, to a slightly lesser degree, its close neighbor Hong Kong during the second half of the twentieth century. Whether the stories take place during the harsh war years of the 1940s, or more recent decades when the city rapidly modernized, they all depict its unique character as a melting pot of Chinese and Portuguese cultures.

David Brookshaw is Professor of Luso-Brazilian Studies at the Bristol University, England. He has published widely on the colonial and post-colonial literature of the Portuguese-speaking world, most recently a study entitled, Border Gates: Perceptions of China in Modern Portuguese Literature.
